Social media is a boon to business, let’s admit that first. Businessesare booming, customers are getting involved and companies are getting live
feedback and loads of authentic data. Everything seems to be working in the
right manner in the right direction. This positive swelling of social media platforms gives rise to
many more social media platforms and applications. Everyone is claiming that
their product is the best for business. The question is how you are going to prove that? Who will authenticate the validity of all the
success claims? Right now there are more than Sixty (60) social media platforms
from where one can boost the business. Of course there are few leaders in this
long list of sixty participants and rest of the pack are trying really hard to
catch up and that will of course take some time. Meanwhile, let us concentrate
on the main question that I have posed in the headline – Do You Really Think
that there are too many Social media platforms to spoil your brand?
In naked eyes and general overview it may seem that presence is good, Means more are merrier but in reality it is not. First, let me put up a single question – How much time do you think will take to create, distribute and upload your brand message for 60+ social media platforms and monitoring their progress? Can we do a simple calculation here? Let’s think we are smart and intelligent enough to create, distribute and monitor one message for sixty different social media platforms, which can take Five (5) minutes approximately ( remember this is too a hypothetical theory). So, at the end of the uploading the message to all the platforms, the watch will let you know that Three Hundred minutes have passed by and may be more. So, you will have to devote Five hours at least for all the social media everyday let alone the working on feedback and action taken on those.
If you are a Big Ship than your chances of sinking is almost none because of your backup system, manpower and financial leverages. But, if you are one of those who has just started the journey or sailing in the middle of the ocean on a fishing trawler then get ready to bear all the burns. No, I am not putting any fear in your mind, nor I am trying to destroy your moral. All I am asking you to take a realistic stand while developing social media strategy and use only those platforms which serve you the most. Taking this decision is also an easy task provided you know what you want to do with your company or brand. If you know your brand, product, service or the company inside out then you will automatically realise which platforms will work best for you and serve your purposes.
If you find it difficult to pick then it is always better to ask the opinion for an expert. It’s your business and your dream just don’t mess it. Grow it bigger and let it make its own mark around the globe.
