People like us who provide our services and expertise in
communication, content, advertising, social media marketing and planning are
sometimes try to overestimate our capabilities thus denying client or customer’s
basic needs. Agreed, we have loads of experiences and we have already served
millions and billions of clients with varied requirements. But, does that mean
we have to allow complacency within ourselves? Are we banking on our ego as an
expert too much? Are we allowing ourselves to listen to everything that our
clients or customers are saying? Are we claiming that we know everything of
every business of every client that we are handling? We must be better than Google for sure! Are we
overestimating our capabilities?
We have never asked these questions to ourselves ever. Sometimes, when we go for a client pitch or client comes to us seeking professional help, we only try to steer them to take our road for our benefits. We fail to remind ourselves that our growth depends on their holistic growth and some of us treat clients as the stepping stone to success. Unless we change this trend very quickly we are all set to kill our future and fortune. Each client and their business are much more important than anything else when we are catering our professional services.
What is the Need of the Hour?
We the expert must take care of few things to remain trustworthy to our clients (at least I am doing to my clients and they are more than happy.)
a) Listen – This is the primary requirement. Have patience and take note of every small thing that you are hearing.
b) Avoid Partiality – Big or Small treat every client or customer of yours in the same way. Remember, in bad days small clients can keep your shop running.
c) Be Available – Yes, we have 24 hrs a day and 365 days only in a year and we have to accommodate everything within this time-frame. Make things clear on your first or second meeting about your availability. Respond at the first instance whenever you get the time.
d) Don’t Lie – Do not put a false face in front your customers. You may con your clients for a certain time period but after a while things will fall apart and everything will be out in the open. Don’t lose your self-esteem and prestige over a lie.
e) Ask – Keep asking your client whenever you are in doubt or short of information. More you ask more you get the clear picture.
f) Have Patience – This is important. Different clients have different needs and they keep on questioning you unless their wishes are fulfilled. Take your time to explain what is possible and what is not.
g) Don’t make False Commitment - In order to bag the order/ the business some of us try to make false commitment or over-commit to our clients, which is really dangerous. If you are not able to live up to the expectation then you are going to lose your reputation forever.
Our customers are doing their business for years and know the business inside out. Start-ups too have their own dreams, ideas and goals they aspiring achieve very soon. Our task is to guide them to their own business goals just by thoroughly understanding their needs.
